Who You Are Matters

💖WHERE DO I COME FROM?

I come from a small rural community in Washington State, neatly tucked between a set of hills tourist call "mountains" (the real mountains are about an hour or so west). My home is the center of agriculture production so I grew up in a hallmark card of scenery.

💖WHERE AM I GOING?

We're gonna find out! Currently my plan is to stay in L.A. post-grad and pursue a career in healthcare consulting...we shall see.

💖MY PLAN TO GET "THERE"

Work hard, play hard. My goal this year is to leverage the networking opportunities available here at USC and equally apply myself to my studies!

💖HOW AM I LIKE MY PARENTS?

I absorbed my parents' fundamental life values, including loyalty, respect, and prioritizing a healthy level of independence. I also gained a love for animals and a strong sense of justice from my early childhood. Other adopted interests include WW2 aviation, photography, and cooking! With this, my sense of humor and love for a little chit chat are certainly derived from my parents.

💖HOW AM I UNLIKE MY PARENTS?

The starkest difference between my parents and I is that I'm outgoing and incredibly social. They wind down with a bit of reading or baking, but I prefer a night out with my little posse.

💖EXPECTATIONS

I grew up with personal goals that were always supported by my parents. I never feel like I'm only doing what anyone else wants from me. Rather, I feel secure in my choices because of their undying support.

💖ROLE MODEL

I've never really been one to find models in other people, especially in those I don't know. That being said, I think the courage I see in my friends to go after their goals with such tenacity is incredibly inspiring.

💖ANIMAL

More recently I've found myself drawn to grizzly bears. They're cutie patooties but also willing to toughen up in necessary conditions.

💖NATURE

When I was younger, I'd spend my summers at my grandparents' estate. I enjoyed helping my grandpa garden, and my grandma and I would play badminton in one of the back acres. In that back acre was a cherry tree with silver bark. I'd climb up the tree, which had perfect, low hanging branches and a nest of space in the center where I'd rest. In the afternoons, my grandparents' cats would find their way over and climb the tree to be with me. Idyllic.

  2. My special connection was also with my grandparents' tree -- a mango tree though. Your parents sound like cool people to be around with. Fellow Aries here!

  3. Your small town seems like such a home-y community! As a Washingtonian, I've never been anywhere besides the metropolitan area in Washington state. However, based on the picture, it looks full of natural beauty.

I also played badminton as a kid! It's such a fun and low-pressure sport to play with your family. Funnily enough, I also have cherry trees in my backyard and would climb them all the time when I was younger.

  4. I also had a special connection with a tree! It was my aunt's lemon tree, my cousins and I used to have so much fun climbing it and picking lemons from it. I love that others share the same experiences! I also love your use of emojis, the pink hearts compliment your story well :)

  5. People see grizzly bears as these dangerous animals, but if you look past that they kind of seem like a great pet.

  6. Hi Miriam! I'm obsessed with how you organized this blog! So cute!

Shoutout to the 90! We will have to chit chat some time because I'd love to hear more stories about your small town as well as your grandparents estate! The picture of you in the tree is adorable, and it looks like such a good climbing tree!
