The Royal Tenenbaums (Original Soundtrack)

    Recently, I've been embracing the fall atmosphere. As the trees around campus start to turn, I've found myself more often than not wearing a fuzzy sweater. My morning tea is tasting crisper, and every time I go to the beach it's foggy. While the last few weeks of heat waves might turn our gaze from the truth, it is still a fact that autumn is here.

    The other day during my afternoon nap I turned on The Royal Tenenbaums; a childhood movie of mine, and one of my mom’s favorites. While she waited until an appropriate time to show me the film, she did tell me about the stories from it such as a paranoid father always dressing his children in matching track suits in case of an emergency (my mother would also dress me in track suits but more for style than out of fear).

     As I was lulled to sleep, I missed out on a good 75% of the film and found myself jolted awake by the song Ruby Tuesday (Rolling Stones) playing throughout my house. A knee-jerk reaction, like singing the National Anthem whenever it plays, came across me and I woke up singing along in a haze of confusion. Soon thereafter, the credits rolled. I was more awake and doing some other homework. I realized, however, that as I was listening to the credits it was a fantastic capsule of autumnal-themed music. Sure, there's a couple oddities here and there that might not match the vibe, but overall, it’s a unique mix of songs for the season.

    Below I’ll list a couple of my favorites from the soundtrack, so you can try them out yourself and see what you think:

    I am immediately turning these songs on after I finish this comment! I've been searching for good fall music to add to my fall playlist, and I feel like this random post was sent to me from the gods of music and fall. Your writing is great, and I really enjoy the imagery! The thought of you waking up singing along with a movie is great!! Such a fun read.

Putting the Rabbit in the Hat

Intentions and Ideas On this Friday afternoon, I’m pleased to announce that I am reading Brian Cox’s Putting the Rabbit in the Hat. I’m an avid fan of the HBO series Succession , and certainly an admirer of Cox’s acting style. His rags-to-riches life story piques my interest in his perspective on a layered and sometimes tumultuous industry.   Overall, I’m looking to enjoy the first autobiography I’ve had the chance to read. Typically, I stick to works of fiction, so I’m exercising a different mindset to approach this novel with an open curiosity. Impressions So far, I’ve been met with a gracious description of Brian Cox’s infamous spirit, as written by Frank Rich. Cox’s character comes across as strong-willed and direct. In the foreword, Rich describes Cox through the lens of his talent in embodying Logan Roy in Succession , which made the introduction of the novel all the more familiar.  Moving further into my reading, Brian’s depth and candor is a treat! Resilient (Book 2, Post 2)

Takeaways                For my second book, I chose Resilient: How to Grow an Unshakable Core of Calm, Strength, and Happiness by Rick Hanson, PhD. Although I had many options, a review shared by Professor Hansen helped me decide, highlighting the book’s range of insights across various topics—perfect for my limited attention span lately. Building mental resilience feels essential as I navigate the turbulence of my twenties, and I’m motivated by the promise of practical tools to make the most of my experiences. With an open mind, I was eager to deepen my personal growth and mental strength. I thought the flow of the book was excellent, so I’m not going to put too much of this review into analyzing the reading experience. Just take my word for it.
